Dancing Alone – #reverb10

#reverb10 – Moment.
Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors).
(Author: Ali Edwards)

I feel enlivened so many moments of so many days. I’m often most alive when I’m salsa dancing with a dance partner on a smooth wood floor, with a live band swingin’ so hard that I can hear nothing but horns and the clave. This year, one particular dancing moment lit me on fire (despite the bitter cold of the day). It was this one:

Caligater Salsa Dancing | Shane Rich Photo

February. Cold outside. Boulder, Colorado. St. Julien Hotel gazebo. Listening to trombones and timbales forcing their way out of pitiful iPhone speakers. Staff inside the hotel is watching, curious. Shane snapping photo after photo after photo. Dancing alone.

  • Beautiful photo! I love the imagery of passionately dancing to tinny, bass-less, little iPhone speakers.

    • Thank you, Josh! Shucks.

And yes – the iPhone speakers don’t quite do the congas justice. :)

That’s great that you have a picture of your alive moment. Come to think of it, so do I: http://kristelpoole.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/sticky062210-31.jpg I just don’t post pictures on my blog. :)

Yours is a gorgeous photo. Iconic.

I love your cold, short, lonely sentences under the photo. You are gorgeous AND so alive! I never would have guessed it was a cold day. You definitely captured the moment.

  • I LOVE this picture and I’ve always wondered the story behind it. Beautiful :)
